Gion Festival"

Hello!

Today, I will introduce some information of Gion Festival in the late July.

As I said on last post, the festival is going to last for 1month.

The main event of it is Yamaboko Parade on 17th and 24th.

On 17th, the parade will start from Shijo Karasuma intersection at 9am, and end at Shinmachi Oike intersection at about 11:20am.

On 24th, it will proceed in the opposite direction. It will start from Karasuma Oike intersection at 9:30am, and end at Shijo Karasuma intersection at about 11:20am.

The highlight of the parade is the scene of turning Yamaboko around narrow corners.

When it succeeds, people give them a round of applause.

There is still vacancy in reservation seats of 24th, so if you want to look at turning Yamaboko close, I recommend making a reservation as soon as possible!

On 24th, at the same time of Yamaboko Parade, there is also another parade, “Hanagasa Junko.”

It will start from Yasaka Shrine at 10am, go along Shijo st., Teramachi St., Oike St., Kawaramachi St., then come back to Yasaka at about 12am.

Children Mikoshi (portable shrine) leads the parade, and Geiko, Maiko, and people dressed up as Bushi follow them. Nearly 1000people are going to join!

After they come back to Yasaka, you can look at traditional dancing there as well.

The rainy season is almost over in Kyoto, and it will grow hotter and hotter,

When you enjoy the parade, please make sure you will prevent against heat stroke!!
