New Year

We are approaching the end of this year. In Japan, We have lots of events going on then. Like drawing a fortune slip, praying for the up-coming year or... drinking:) However, it is believed one of the biggest events then is to hear the New year's bell. It is rung 108times which is corresponded to desires of people. It is said people have 108 desires such as desire for eating, sleeping or shopping here in Japan. This event is held so as to erace these desires for the New Year on New Year's eve. We luckily have plenty of temples holding this event in Kyoto. So why not coming here and getting gear for the New Year by doing it?;)

Viewing the red leaves is one of the romantic events among Japanese couples.
Here in Kyoto, there are lots of spots you can see them with light-up.
This scenery is unbelievably beautiful, so you must be in good mood if you go there with your partner!
Of course, you can go there with your friends and have a big blast, too:)
If you were here then, we definitely recommend you seeing them!

Zidai Festival is just coming!!

1 week into the one of the biggest festival in Kyoto, Zidai Festival !!
What amaze you most in this festival is that distance, from Karasuma st to Heian-Zinguu, 4.5 km, over all !! It's 5 times longer than distance of the parade held in Disneyland !!  For such long distance, it's rather hard to find where you cannot see.
As you can see from the pic below, people in the line are all in the traditional wearing. These  cloths used to be worn by ancient Japanese.  As they are walking, cloths they are wearing will be gradually changed from traditional cloths to modern.  That represents the change of the Japanese history by their fashion style.
Watching them walking through, you feel as if you had been transported through the time.  Come and experience !!

Zuiki Festival

Zuiki festival is held at Kitanotemmangu shrine from Oct 1st to 5th!
The enchanting event would be seeing the portable shrine with dry food:)

Originally, this festival began in 10 century for showing our appreciation for adequate harvest.
So we decorate the portable shrine with dry food to do it.

You could reach there by taking either bus no.50 or 101 and getting off at Kitanotemmangu-mae!

It might be one of Japanese historical festivals, so why not popping there and feeling it!?;)

Tanabata (Star Festival)

Today, July 7, is the Star Festival which is one of the important event in Japan. Originally, this festival bases on the Chinese legend of two stars; Altair and Vega. Vega, a weaving girl, and Altair, a cowherd boy, they are both hard-working. However, once they got seeing each other, tehy discontinued working. This led to lose the temper of Vega's father... Due to it, he prohibited them from meeting-up by separating by the Milky way. After that, they reformed thier mind and decided to work hard again! It succeeded in changing father's mind and getting together again! It was just once a year, though.. From that story, people began to celebrate their reunion by decorating the bamboo branches with some paper stripes and ornaments. On top of that, it is believed that the wish comes true if you write it on the paper stripes ang hang it on the bamboo. So now, let's get some pens and papers to make your hope come true!

Must-come event in summer ~Special offer from us~

Nowadays, we've been feeling that summer is in process of appearing. Isn't it too hot everyday, this year? Everyone tends to eat loads of ice creams and afterwards, they get pain in their belly. After all, they rush to the toilet... sorry... Anyway, we hold a special event which you can surely enjoy a lot even in the sun! It is Somen Nagashi!!!! Somen is sort of noodle which is normally made by flour(you can have a look at first picture) and Nagashi means 'Float' in English. For you to image it up, you can look at second picture. As you can see, there are some half-bamboos to float some water and people around them. We usually need chopsticks and some small containers to put special soup to eat Somen! And now like you may be able to guess, we throw somen into the bamboos and people need to catch them! After catching it, you just dip into the soup and eat it! That sounds fun, doesn't it!!? To your pleased suprise, it is for free and held every Wednesday and Sunday from the end of June!!! On top of that, you can request it even not Monday and Sunday which means you can do it whenever you like!!!!!!!!! However, in case of bad weather, we need to cancell it unwillingly... We are glateful if you show us your acknowledge. Lastly, it is known as Japanese famous summer event and WE hold it!!!!! So let's get together, eat Somen and have fun!!!

Kawadoko in Kyoto - eating Kyoto food outside

One of the summer speciality has come! In kyoto, many restaurants beside the Kamo river offer a seasonal event called Kawadoko which we are able to eat some food at terrace. Meaning you can enjoy Kyoto food and stunning view simultaneously. We strongly recommend it due to limited event. It's held only from May to the end of September. On top of that, we can do it at lunch time only in May and September. That is to say, mostly it's at night, though both are great. If you were grabbed your attention, why not going there!?

The latest touristic place here in Kyoto

Kyoto Aquarium has opend since last March. Did you know that? It is the first full-scale aquarium in which is located the spacious green zone of Umekoji park. You might be easily able to find it. It is about a 15-munites walk distance from Kyoto Station, surrounded by park land. It is believed that we have no ocean in the city and kyoto has several rivers. We reckon that it is the point of this spot due to this aquarium has Rivers of Kyoto Zone as well as Countryside of Kyoto Zone. Doesn't it appeal to you!? Surely, it also has the other ordinary facilities like every aqualiums have such as Penguin zone, Dolphin stadium and Museum shop etc. It is open from 9 to 17.(it could be changeable depending on the season) Tickets: Adults:¥2000 High school students:¥1500 Junior high ans Elementary school students:¥1000 Children(over 3 years old):¥600 Now, why don't we face to another Kyoto's aspect?

Coming of Age Day is literally coming!!!!!

Coming of Age Day (成人の日) is a Japanese holiday annually on the second Monday of January. On this day, all those who have reached the age of 20 years old are celebrated that they have become adults. Festivities are taken place at local and prefectural offices. Traditionally, girls wear Kimono on the day and boys wear hakama(these days suits get more popular, though). If you see someone who looks happy in colorful costumes on the day around , she or he must be 20 years old:)
